Zane began his journey with Cry X at a time when the organisation was navigating its evolution. His leadership, characterised by a profound understanding of the issues facing the poor in the region, was transformative. Comrade Zane didn’t just serve as a leader; he embodied the core values of Cry X. Under his stewardship, Cry X Western Cape grew not only in size but also in influence and impact. He was a tireless advocate for human rights and social justice. His work inspired not only those within the organisation but also a wide network of partners and collaborators who shared his vision for a more inclusive and just society.

Comrade Zane’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life was one of his most remarkable traits. Whether working with young people facing adversity or engaging with local government and community leaders, his approach was always collaborative. His leadership style was rooted in consensus-building, and he had a unique ability to inspire those around him to take collective action for the greater good. He was never one to seek the spotlight for himself; instead, he preferred to elevate those around him, empowering others to step into leadership roles and make meaningful contributions.

His passing has resulted in an outpouring of grief, along with a profound sense of gratitude for the incredible impact he had on so many lives. His influence will be felt for years to come, as the projects and initiatives he championed continue to thrive and evolve. Cry X Western Cape and the wider Cry X network have lost a visionary leader, but his work will remain a guiding force for future generations of youth advocates, activists, and community leaders.

As we reflect on Comrade Zane’s life, we are reminded of the importance of service, compassion, and dedication to social change. He believed that every action, no matter how small, has the power to create a ripple effect that can transform lives. His legacy is one of unwavering commitment to building a better world, where the rights, dignity, and potential of young people are at the forefront of every conversation.

In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that his impact will endure. His contributions to Cry X and the many communities he served will never be forgotten. We honour his memory by continuing the work he so passionately pursued and by carrying forward his vision of a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

Comrade Zane’s spirit, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of unity will remain etched in our hearts and in our work. As we say goodbye to a leader, friend, and mentor, we commit to ensuring that his legacy lives on, inspiring us to continue the fight for justice, equality, and opportunity for all.
